Saturday 28th April – Don’t forget to come into the store this Saturday for the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. Please feel free to drop into this demonstration at any time between 10am – 4pm – we’ll be serving up bite-size Back to Basics info throughout the day!
Tuesday 8th and 22nd May – The ‘Tuesday Turners’ Les and Malcolm will be in store between 10am – 2pm. It’s a great opportunity to chat with like-minded people and see skilled craftsmen at work.
Thursday 10th May – As a result of the good turnout and feedback on our Carving & Pyrography event, we have started a Craft and Hobbies Club for beginners. Come along on the afternoon of the second Thursday of each month and carve out a new hobby of a lifetime.
Saturday 19th May – Have you got a paint/finishing project to do? Painting with a sprayer is much faster than using a brush or roller and gives a smooth finish and there is no better time to buy than now. Fuji, the innovative and trusted suppliers of HVLP paint spraying equipment, are offering a FREE spray gun with any purchase of the Fuji Spray® Q5 PLATINUM™*. But the offer doesn’t end there, in store we are offering a FREE advice on setting up (including paint thinning recommendations) and practical tips so that you can produce a professional finish every time. Come along to the store anytime between 10am and 4pm.
Saturday 26th May – In the third of our Back to Basics series, we take a closer look at hand chisels, which are amongst the oldest tools in the chest yet are still considered essential to woodworking professionals and hobby enthusiasts alike. Throughout May, our experts will guide you towards crafting those classic joints including dovetails and mortices – and teach you how to sharpen your chisels with repeatable accuracy. Join us in store on the 26th for our national chisels and sharpening demonstration – any time between 10am and 4pm. See you there!
The May bank holidays will soon be here and if you’re planning to tackle those nagging DIY projects we have the tools to help and a live workshop, so you can try before you buy!
For some of you, the long weekends will inspire creativity, much like in store enthusiast Lydia who is planning to create something (anything!) out of our beautiful selection of timber. Perhaps you have a more practical project in mind; to help spring tidy your home. If so, ask Andre how easily a box or rack can be achieved using the UJK Pocket Hole Joinery System.
Personally, I have had a busy few weeks preparing my outdoor furniture to get it summer ready, so I will be spending the first bank holiday relaxing in the sun, I hope!
Did you know…
We’ve been supporting The Furniture Makers’ Company for many years. Axminster’s Managing Director Alan Styles has recently been made a liveryman, moving up from the position of corporate liveryman, which he became in 2013. Alongside Alan, Axminster’s Sales Director Darran McLeod was also admitted to the Furniture Makers’ Company as a corporate liveryman.
“I feel honoured to have been made a liveryman of The Furniture Makers’ Company. The Company carries out invaluable work in education, supporting and promoting promising young furniture makers. Its other charitable work includes lending a helping hand to those in need who have worked in the furniture industry, in the form of grants, services and time. We at Axminster are pleased to be able to work with and support such a highly regarded organisation” – Alan Styles
