Make it in March Exclusive In-Store Competition

Saturday 31st March – Hopefully, you’re reaching the finishing stages of your Make In March project. Don’t forget to bring it into the store this Saturday for a chance to win a Rider No.4 plane!

Saturday 7th April – Top UK woodturner, Tracy Owen, is back in the store to wow us with his innovative woodturning skills. Tracy specialises in green (or wet) woodturning of bowls and hollow forms to produce unique one-off pieces. He also likes to add texture to his work which he achieves by sandblasting, carving, chainsawing and colouring. For his demonstration, Tracy will be using the Axminster Trade Series AT1628VS lathe, focusing on bowls and hollowing.

Saturday 21st April – Internationally recognised woodturner and Axminster Skill Centre tutor, Colwin Way, will be in store demonstrating a variety of turning, chucking, and sharpening methods. His schedule will include the ‘Taming of the Skew’ and the benefits of wet (green) wood bowl turning versus dry wood turning. Colwin will also share his suggestions for sanding and finishing and look at smaller projects for the beginner such as bottle stops, small vases and a toffee dish. Come along and enjoy Colwin’s informative and entertaining demonstrations!

Saturday 28th April – Join us for the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. We’ll take a closer look at one of the oldest and most trusted tools in the woodworker’s chest – the hand saw. Still a favourite of skilled trade professionals, hand saws provide precision, speed and convenience which often rivals the performance of power saws. Come along and rediscover the versatility of hand saws.

Manager’s Message

Despite recent adverse weather conditions, the store has been open and busy as usual. Many of the team have been furthering their own development and skills by attending training days for Festool, Logosol and the discipline of Woodturning. They have all returned with a wealth of knowledge that they are keen to pass on!

A highlight for me this month was having internationally recognised woodturner and sculptor Joey Richardson in store. Her creativity and attention to detail is inspirational.

We made many new friends at the Macclesfield Model Railway show in March with a display of Proxxon and various Axminster modelling tools – we look forward to seeing you in store soon.

We were also delighted to host students from the Warrington Collegiate in store at the end of February for an afternoon of tool demonstrations by our team and various suppliers.

Did you know…
