Saturday 7th to Monday 9th – We will be showcasing and demonstrating the Arbortech range, Japanese hand saws and Microplanes at the Kent County Show being held at Kent Showground, Detling. The show takes place over three days, we’re at stand number 446, so why not pop along and have a great day out.

Saturday 14th – If you’ve not yet tried power carving this is a great opportunity to have a go and discover how easily Arbortech tools can accurately shape wood. Our in-store expert Hollie will be demonstrating Arbortech’s versatile range of woodcarving power tools and putting the Turbo blade, Contour Sander and Ball Gouge through their paces.

Saturday 21st – The Souber Lock Jig is fast becoming the preferred method for many tradespeople when fitting mortice locks. With its self-centering clamp and milling operation, it is definitely a must-have tool when fitting doors. Come along anytime between 10-4 and have a go yourself with our in-store demonstrator Colin Niblet.

Saturday 28th – If you’re a woodworker, you’re making dust. And if you’re using machines, you’re making plenty of it. Whether a hobbyist or a trade workshop owner, health and safety is an important consideration – and air filtration is often overlooked in our PPE and equipment choices. Throughout July, our stores will display and demonstrate a range of solutions which will help protect against dusts, fibres and fumes in your working environment. And on Saturday 28th July, all stores will host special demonstrations on extraction in use with popular workshop machines including planer thicknessers, drum sanders and table saws. Come along to your nearest store and we’ll help you find the best ways to ‘Breathe Easy’.

Manager’s message

I was pleased that Axminster could help support the Kenward Trust‘s 50th-anniversary Butterfly Ball raffle by donating a Bosch 10.V Drill. Through recovery, resettlement and reintegration programmes, the trust work with individuals who have been affected by alcohol and drug dependence. We look forward to working more closely with the Trust to provide woodwork training for their staff members.

– David Johns, Store Manager

Our 50th-anniversary Butterfly Ball takes place on Friday 6th July and we are hugely grateful to Axminster Tools in Sittingbourne for their generous donation of a prize for the evening – Karen Gambrell Fundraising Manager

In The Headlines (or should we now say hashtag?) This Month …

Whether you were among the many championing for #CleanAir or not, the one thing all woodworkers should care about is air pollution. It was a hot topic last month with Global Action Plan holding a national Clean Air Day and the British Lung Foundation focusing on lung health during their annual Breathe Easy Week. The charity’s aims were to build awareness of what air pollution is and how it affects our health. Cleaner air is something everybody should consider especially those lost in creativity (and dust) within their workstations. No matter what type of workshop you’re in, extraction is paramount. Even the occasional tinkerer needs to consider their safety and making sure you have the right extraction system should be one of your first considerations.

Come to our free demonstration on the 28th (see details above) to learn all you need to know about air filtration.
