One of the most difficult tools for the newcomer to master is the marking gauge, but with a little practice, it soon becomes second nature. The secret is to pick it up and hold it correctly. When it’s held firmly against the face edge, rotated and then pushed away from the user to make a lightly scored line, it becomes simplicity itself! Alternatively, the use of a wheel gauge is also shown.
