In the second episode of our podcast, Out of the Woodwork, Sean Evelegh talks to the inspirational Chris Fisher, aka, The Blind Woodturner.

Chris took up woodturning after losing his sight in 2008.  He is now the first registered blind person on the Register for Professional Woodturners.

More about Chris Fisher

Chris’ incredible story saw him discover a passion for woodturning after losing his sight in 2008 to toxoplasmosis. After pulling himself from a spiralling depression, Chris, an avid horror fan, wanted to make a wooden vampire stake, and decided woodturning was the only way. And he wasn’t going to let his disability stop him.

Part of Chris’ mission is to exceed the expectations of what others perceive disabled people are able to accomplish, and to prove to himself, and the world, that having a disability isn’t the end, it’s just a new beginning.

Chris now shares this passion for woodturning with others, offering demonstrations and tuition, and his widely acclaimed artistic pieces are highly sought after.
