Sebastian Cox using Rider chisels

Why do you like Rider Chisels?

“For us, the Rider chisel represents great value for money. The steel is comparable with that of higher-end tools and they will hold an edge for a good amount of time. We recommend these chisels to our apprentices as a rock-solid investment to start their woodworking career with.”

What do you use them for?

“The chisels get used for numerous tasks around the workshop. Pairing joints, settling hinges and removing dry glue - chisels in our workshop can get a lot of abuse! The Rider’s seem to take this in their stride though and are easily re-sharpened in minutes.”

Why do you use Axminster Tools?

“Axminster are a really good company to have on our side. The folks there go out of their way to help and the range of products they have in stock is impressive. Their website is clear and easy to navigate, and ordering is a simple matter.”

Tom Eddolls of English Fine Furniture

Tom started the company after working with some of the UK’s finest design workshops. Here he tells us about his favourite hand tool, the Veritas Standard Block Plane and what made him choose Axminster Tools.

What is your favourite hand tool?

“To be honest, one of my favourite tools is my Veritas Standard Block Plane. I’ve had it for 10 years now and I’m on my second iron, which should give you some indication as to how much I use it. It’s pretty battle scarred, but I use it every day and it performs all the operations you’d expect of it. Sharpening with diamonds allows me to keep the plane working at its best. I can get the iron razor sharp and it holds an edge far longer than anything else I’ve used.”

Why do you shop with Axminster?

“It’s simple really, you always have all the tools I ever need. You are the go-to place for cabinet making tools.”

Tom carried out a 3 year apprenticeship before completing his training at college in Royal Leamington Spa, where he qualified with distinction. Since this, he has worked for some of the UK’s foremost designer making workshops including Robin Furlong and Waywood Furniture creations. Since then, Tom has founded English Fine Furniture.
