North Shields Store on North Shields Retail Park
The current North Shields Store on North Shields Retail Park

The Axminster North Shields store, which first opened in March 2015, is moving to new premises. The new store is situated less than a mile away on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate. The new store will be open for trading, although not fully merchandised, from Friday 15th June.
It will be fully operational from Monday 25 June.

Why the move?

The new store is just off three major roads: A19, A193 and A1058. Therefore, the site provides the store with a solid infrastructure that is in a highly populated area. The road network will make the store easily accessible for both the people of North Shields and the surrounding areas. In addition, the size and layout will enable products to be displayed more effectively.

What are the benefits?

At 12,000 sq ft, the new store has 2,000 sq ft more floor space. In practice, this means more space will be available for demonstrations. There will be greater opportunities for customers to get hands-on and for staff to interact with the local community. Another advantage will be better product arrangement. Products can be displayed together according to the projects they might be used for or the solutions they provide. And, the new store will have around 9,000 product lines.

What's happening and when

Meanwhile Axminster North Shields store manager Mark Bloomfield and his team have been organising the old store. They hope to make the move as painless as possible.

Retail manager Berni Callery said: “We are doing all we can to minimise the impact on our customers. We will actually start moving from Friday 8th June and will be open for trading at our new premises on Friday 15th June. The store won’t be fully operational on that day, but we will be open and welcoming customers. Then we will begin the process of building up the store again so that it will be fully operational from Monday 25th June.”

Store manager Mark Bloomfield added: “As we’ve only been at the current store for 3 years, many of the fittings are almost as good as new. For example, we’ve carefully removed the light fittings so they can be reused in the new store. We are trying to avoid unnecessary waste, and are aiming to either reuse or recycle as much as we can from the old store.”
