Who will be there?
Colwin Way – Woodturning (Saturday Only)
One of our most respected Skill Centre tutors, Colwin initially started up on his own, designing and turning for galleries and craft shops, establishing a reputation as a leading woodturner. Since joining Axminster several years ago, he has been pivotal in the development and running of the Skill Centre’s woodturning courses. Colwin has demonstrated and taught on behalf of Axminster in the UK, Ireland, France and Norway.
Jason Smith – Woodturning (Friday Only)
An avid turner and tutor, Jason is part of Kent Woodturners Association. Although mainly a bowl turner, he also enjoys doing variations on long stemmed goblets. On the day he will be turning bowls and demonstrating a variety of textures and finishes using inks and iridescent paints. Covering everything from workshop safety, machine se-tup, to material selection and tooling, he is always eager to pass on his experience and expertise.
Hollie Wise – Tormek Sharpening
Sharp tools are essential for producing top quality, flawless pieces. Sittingbourne Skill Centre tutor Hollie, will be demonstrating how simple the Tormek system is to use. She will offer tips and techniques for getting the best results, plus will introduce the huge range of jigs available. Bring along your planes, knives or chisels and you can ask for advice on setting up and honing the cutting edges to perfection.
Coral Davis – Scroll Saws and Pyrography
Scroll saws are ideal for producing jigsaws and other wooden toys. If you’re thinking of treating yourself to one of these versatile machines join Coral in-store as she puts them through their paces. This will be a good opportunity to ask about basic set-up, finding and preparing patterns, choosing blades and safest practice. With a passion for pyrography, Coral will also be showing you just how easy it is to get started with this imaginative and low cost hobby too.
Peter Hibbin – Axminster Dovetail Jigs
A router is a very versatile machine, especially when used with an Axcaliber Dovetail Jig. Sittingbourne Skill Centre tutor Peter Hibbin will be demonstrating the simple set-up and use of the jig, to produce accurate dovetail joints every time. Peter will be creating simple boxes and drawers using a traditional dovetail joint. If you are thinking of taking your first steps into dovetail making, or just want to take your joinery to the next level, then this is a demonstration not to be missed.
Shaye Chatfield – Bandsaws
Shaye, a trained wood machinist and furniture maker, will be available to demonstrate our popular range of bandsaws. Shaye will take you through how to set-up your bandsaw to get accurate and clean cuts as well as making a box. That’s’s right, a box using the bandsaw! If you’re setting up a new workshop, or just looking to upgrade, this is your chance to get a real understanding of the machine.
Katie Reid – UJK Technology Pocket Hole Joinery
Katie will be guiding you through the set-up and use of the UJK Technology Pocket Hole Jig. This increasingly popular method of joinery is all about creating strong, hidden joints that are fast and easy to produce. This machine is suitable for many applications from furniture making to kitchen fitting. Whether you’re a hobby user or professional craftsman, come along and see just how easy this joinery system is to use and the great results that can be achieved.
Geoff Gray – Bosch
Get hands-on with some of the toughest and most innovative power tools the UK has to offer. Well known at many Axminster events, Geoff Gray will be available to offer help and advice on this vast range of power tools.
Chris Hill – Mirka Sanders
Mirka sanders speak for themselves. We have had such great feedback from our customers and we can see why. These sanders are light in weight and easy to operate with virtually dust-free sanding when linked to an extractor. If you are looking for a new sander then it’s definitely worth coming in and having a chat with Chris.

Three experts from the world renowned company Numatic International (with its Head Office and manufacturing premises in Chard, Somerset) will be in store to offer advice on all aspects of vacuum extraction.
